Replying To JonSmith:  "Awwwwnow will you put money on Cavan's average scoring per game being higher this year under Mattie than it was last year under Hyland? Should be easy money given that Mattie is going to play more attacking football... It might not be fair betting on the League given that we're in a higher division but we can make the bet on Championship alone.

Seriously now put your money where your mouth is. If we can average 19.6 points per game under Hyland in the Championship with 14 men behind the ball and forwards playing in defence (both completely false claims by yourself) then I'm sure we should smash that with Mattie's attacking philosophy? I'm sure there'd be plenty more on here willing to take the bet too if you want to make yourself rich off the back of it."
JonSmith.. scoring averages will hardly be higher as we are stepping up playing better opposition.
But I will tell you what I will settle for... performances where Martin Reilly doesn't have to go back to his own 45 to get the ball and play it laterally across the park time and time again.
Performances where Johnston will get ball 20/30 metres from goal not 70 metres as against Tyrone last year.
Performances where we might actually win even 1 game of importance like a home fixture in the 1st round of the championship.
Forwards playing football.. i.e. Kicking the ball.
Let's see what's in store.

In our first 2 league games last year we scored 0-8 and 1-11 and lost both.
Half time in the Meath game the system was changed we totted up 1-20 and went on a 5 game unbeaten run. Who changed things at half time that day in Navan?
And it wasn't who you think it was.
Answers on a postcard!!!

You are an extremely optimistic man!!! I don't think you have realised what is ahead of yous playing Div 1 teams?? I know all is fine and dandy now.. new manager new hope all is looking good but look at the players Cavan are missing for the league.. You will need to beat Monaghan, Roscommon and another team to stay up... I'm a happier man been a Monaghan man!!!

Johnston 70 meters from goal was to do with how Tyrone were set up not the way Cavan were playing,

rhe problem was we didn't worry about how Tyrone had set up.. if we did Peter Harte wouldn't have waltzed through twice would he?

I thought it was because he was playing CHF.

That's why I said we'd base it on Championship this year not the league. Ulster has the same teams every year in case you didn't know. And I'll even discount the Carlow game for you to sweeten the deal. So you're unwilling to take the bet?? Thought so. All bark but no bite.

Was Peter Harte waltzing through to do with the way Tyrone were set up or poor defending? Probably because of the way Tyrone set up!!

Play broke down up the field with Conor Moynagh out of position and no one went into cover for him. Whole middle wide open. Lack of communication and positional awareness.

Well done Mattie and the lads!! Beats Tyrone at his first attempt.. something that hasn't happened for 16/17 years at Senior level.. food for thought for some ex managers!!

For once I agree with you - food for though for SOME ex-managers.

I'm sure if Mattie has a successful year, he'll be the first to acknowledge the work done by Terry Hyland in getting this group of players to where they are.

Now stick your agendas where they belong and enjoy a good Cavan win for what it is.

Here here. The sniping and negativity that has dogged this forum for last couple years is shocking.

i used to think he was a childish 11 or 12 year old who was a bit bored, but given how long it's gone on, I'm pretty sure now it is a club player who is annoyed at not getting a look in for the county panel.

Yes a real manager at last! Big crowd too for a McKenna Cup match must have been up on 4000 there. Even Martin Reilly was having a pop today scored a few.. Great to see! New era!!

Agree, great start but still work to be done.
But what's with the snipe.
Anyone who can't acknowedge the great work done in the last six yrs is just shallow.

Yes there was great work done at u21 level by Terry and co since 2010. Yes we got promoted last year after going on a run of 5 games unbeaten from half time in the Meath game.
People close to the setup knows who's origionally responsible for that surge.
We retreated into our defensive mode once again for the championship, thus a game that was there for the taking was lost in the line.
Really management last year making things up as they went along that was plain to be seen.
It's a new era now with Mattie who seemingly know what he's doing.
A welcome change for the better.
Even the supporters seem to be returning at this early stage.
