Most Counties wont get started into club championship until August, regardless of when their county gets knock out. In Mayo, summer holiday break is now part of the club players life. Even if Mayo were out on 14th June - Club football Championship wont be starting early. ... All Ireland finalists St Brigid's made a flying start to their Roscommon SFC title defence. Hoganstand reports that they were in impressive form as they saw off Michael Glaveys by 1-24 to 0-12. ... Club is King! It's great to see all the football championships getting underway! Intermediate All Ireland winners An Ghaeltacht marked their return to the senior grade with a win. Senior All Ireland winners Dingle lost to Rathmore. Senior Club winners Dr Crokes also got off to a winning start. Dr Crokes and Dingle will clash in Round 2. Club football in the Tyrone Division 1 league keeps getting weirder. The 3 biggest towns in Tyrone, Omagh, Dungannon and Coalisland are sitting bottom, 2nd and 3rd from bottom. ... Round 2 of the club championships this weekend. Dingle v Dr Crokes the big game. Dingle looking to bounce back after defeat in Round 1. Dr Crokes looking to win the group for direct route to the semi finals. Austin Stacks, off the back of a big win, travel to Kenmare. A win for Austin Stacks means their name will be in the hat with the Group 3 winner for the lucky dip to decide who will get a bye to the semi final. Quellle surprise there is some complication with 1 group of 4 and 2 groups of 3! ... Dr Crokes beat Dingle. 2 losses now for Dingle who'll have to win their final group game to avoid the relegation playoff. Stacks and Kenmare played out an exciting draw. Milltown with an important win that might prove enough to avoid the relegation semi final. Being in a group of 3 having played twice, they are sitting ducks really depending on how the final game plays out. Nearly all knockout after this, with the exception of divisional teams being guaranteed at least two games when they enter the county championship. Crokes host Rathmore in a battle for direct route to the semi finals. All Ireland winners Dingle are looking to avoid the relegation playoff. Intermediate winners Ghaeltacht take on Na Gaeil. Both first and foremost are looking to avoid the relegation semi final. A win for Ghaeltacht will put them in a lucky dip for a direct bye to the semi finals! ... Na Gaeil beat Ghaeltacht to win their group. Na Gaeil and Stacks went into the hat for a bye to the semi finals. Na Gaeil were plucked from the hat. Stacks will play Rathmore and Milltown will play Kenmare in the quarter finals. Ghaeltacht and Templenoe will contest the relegation semi final. Dingle are safe. Intermediate and Premier Junior quarter finals take centre stage this weekend. Fossa host Listowel and Glenflesk travel to Laune Rangers in the intermediate championship. Listry host Senans in a perceived battle of 2 of the top 3 at premier junior level. The reports are all positive from all championship levels so far. It's slightly better now that there are 10 senior club teams. It was only 8 for a long time. But absolutely, they still have a big advantage at intermediate and junior provincial and All-Ireland level. I've posted many times on here about it. Kerry has competitive club structures. Just the way it is. Many counties have too many senior clubs but don't want to address the issue.
