Replying To Pikeman96:  "@Viking66 - meant to post this yesterday, but yours is an interesting idea. If it ever were to be proposed, I'd suggest linking the "bonus" points for having won the head-to-head match to the margin of victory in that match - e.g. if you'd won it by two points, you'd get two bonus points. If you'd won it by eight points, you'd get eight bonus points.

Would be a bit like the old "away goals count double" rule in soccer.

Possible criticism would be if the head-to-head match was very one-sided (say 15 points) and one argued that the "bonus" 15 points would make it too difficult to make up the deficit, but as you said, the head-to-head result should count for something, so it follows that a large victory there should probably count for more than a narrow one."
Thats an excellent idea. Would that be something we could decide in the county, or would it have to go to Convention?

Just on the last paragraph, if the margin of victory was 15 points it would be unlikely the team losing the head to head game would be anywhere near ahead on score difference anyway?

Am guessing you mean would it have to go to Congress, as Convention would be within the county anyway. And the answer is it depends.

If whoever was proposing it thought it was such a good idea that it should apply everywhere (e.g. National Leagues and the round-robin stages of provincial championships), then it would be for Congress and the national Rule Book.

If they just wanted it to apply in our own competitions, Wexford could deal with it all right, as the Rule Book allows counties to make their own regulations on splitting ties in league tables. The ones actually set out in the Rule Book (head-to-head, mini league, etc.) are just the defaults that apply if a county hasn't done anything different.

But for what it's worth - am unaware of any county actually doing anything different!

Well, that's kind of the point I was making. Especially in a format like tearintom suggested, where you'd only have three games anyway, making up 15 points would already be difficult so making up 30 would be nigh on impossible. But back then to the other point of how if head-to-head result is to mean something, a big win there should mean more than a small one.
