Dublin GAA votes to end Allianz link

Dublin has become the latest county to vote in favour of the GAA ending its relationship with Allianz.

A motion from St Joseph’s-O’Connell Boys’ calling on Croke Park to sever its ties with the insurance giants was passed at Monday night’s county board meeting. Forty-six delegates voted in favour, 24 opposed and 10 abstained.

There have been many calls for the GAA to cut ties with Allianz since a report was published last year alleging that the company profited from Israeli forces being in Gaza. The report from UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese named 'From economy of occupation to economy of genocide' claimed Allianz was benefiting financially from Israeli forces being in Gaza, by investing in organisations involved in the war.

Among the ‘Drop Allianz’ campaign’s most high-profile supporters are former Dublin footballer Dr David Hickey and Meath legend Colm O’Rourke.
