Harking back to the Southern Gaels application, rather than the support you get yourselves - They say average number of spectators for an adult match is five people. Remember that'd be the total support for both teams. If the level of interest is so low that two clubs between them can only muster up five supporters for a match, then surely that really is worrying for hurling there. And if five really is the average, then that means that if they get a "bumper" crowd of eight one day, there could only be two some other day. That'd be even more worrying. But I daresay anybody would agree that if there's so little interest that average attendance is only five people (and how that five would be made up of supporters of both teams), then that has to be worrying. But I think even more worrying for the club is how they say themselves that average attendance at training is only 60%. This suggests that even a large portion of their own players aren't all that bothered about it. And remember this 60% is apparently all that turns at the pitch they're currently using in the town itself. I didnt see their planning application did they really say theyd only have 5 spectators?!!!!! Seriously though there are quite a few grounds in Wexford that likely wouldn't have parking for more than 48 cars in a carpark. Cars often get parked along ditches inside these grounds. Yeah, it's in the cover letter of their planning application, where they set out the expected numbers and associated car parking spaces needed for training or matches for all levels from U8 upwards. They don't even say ten spectators in five cars on the grounds that some would travel together. They really do say just five spectators, with a parking space needed for each of them. Can think of a few grounds myself in Wexford where there wouldn't be room for many more than 48 cars in the car park, but thing is that they're all long-established grounds. If you were to go in with a new planning application today for a greenfield site and it was clear that 48 wouldn't be enough, that'd likely be an obstacle to overcome as part of the process. It would for sure. Planning is a nightmare for everyone, had to jump through hoops a few years ago just to put a shed up the park here at home.
