Replying To Ratoath Royal:  ""Barely survived relegation" is a bit much. They've finished third in both their seasons in senior. They were beaten on penalties by Simonstown last year (after easily beating Dunboyne in the group stages) before easily beating NOM in the relegation semi final. In 2021, they were a bit unlucky not to end up in the knockout stages with Na Fianna drawing with them in their last game. Again, they easily survived in the relegation semi final."
Caught the Na Fianna Ratoath league game during the week!
Na Fianna seem to be missing a few but Ratoath looked very strong
No Joe WAllace or David McGowan and a new keeper

Jack Flynn was excellent at 11 - Ben Wyer very strong in full back line and Conor McGill was outstanding! Shane he's out in the cold with the county team!

I don't think I have seen a team play with the intensity in the league other than Kells and maybe Summerhill

Liam Kelly? He played at half back! Did nicely! Now that I think about it - I didn't see Gavin McGowan - so he might have been injured too. Eamon Wallace played in the forwards - I think last year he played at half back!

Early doors - but how are we thinking in terms of favorites? Ratoath for senior is the consensus but the others are open. League form for most of the junior and intermediate teams is very up and down so it is a lottery- on form maybe St Patricks for Intermediate but its too early for sure to say and Intermediate is a bear pit Junior, I havent a clue. Ballinlough? Junior B, could it finally be Slane's time

Senior cant see past Ratoath winning again tbh. Summerhill to be bridesmaids again.

Intermediate is the toughest to call. Navan O Mahonys , Rathkenny, Duleek/Bellewstown, St Pats, Michaels and Oldcastle will all fancy their chances.

Junior not sure. Maybe Syddan ?

Yes Syddan, forgot about them. Junior will be tough too it seems

My Top 3 picks in each grade would be in Senior it's Ratoath,Summerhill,Don/Ash I think Ratoath win but not too easy and could even be a twist.

Intermediate is O'Mahonays, Oldcastle, St Michaels but anything could happen in Intermediate it's all to play for with Duleek, Rathkenny, St Pats all strong teams with full squad available I think off league form you'd pick the top 3 but as we know league form and continuing it on for championship is total different football.

Junior then is between Dunsanny, Ballinlough and Syddan I think. Will Dunsanny ever get over the line? Junior has proven to come up from for recently relegated intermediate teams so we'll see what comes.

Still early days

The games you mention were the 3rd games in the group and they were already out of the chamionship at that stage and Na Fianna and Dunboyne had nothing to play for.

Even if you look at the league, Ballinabrackey were easily beaten in almost every game last year and deservedly got relegated. I've checked results over the past few years and Ballinabrackey have lost everytime against each of these teams and were actually hammered out the gate a few times. So it seems to me they already know they're in reĺegation before the start of the championship to try and give it everything for one or two matches. If you look they beat a 14 man dunshaughlin team to avoid relegation and the also beat a 14 man O'Mahonys team to avoid the same. The hill, kells and tones will be expecting at least 10 point wins against them, as I said 3 teams to fight it out. Also any predictions I've seen here does not include Ballinabrackey, which says it all really

Meath Hill looking strong in the league btw. Potential dark horse in intermediate?

Hard to look beyond Ratoath for Senior. Summerhill, Kells and Tones will all fancy their chances with Na Fianna, Ashbourne and Cilles hoping to cause an upset.

Intermediate is difficult, Michael's, NOM, Walterstown, Duleek, Rathkenny and Oldcastle could all win it on their day but Duleek is my favourite. Castletown and Meath Hill will cause a shook or two along the way.

Junior has to be Syddan, they are playing in 1B against Senior and top Intermediate clubs and holding their own to stay up. Dunsany will challenge

As all Meath senior teams are finished with league and championship could they not bring forward the club championship.
After all it must rank ahead of tournaments like the tailteann cup and the Christy ring or the o Byrne cup. It would not matter if Meath never played the games in them.

Jesus our senior championship is so weak its embarrassing. We need to somehow get it down to 8 or 10 teams or we are at nothing. Game after game of average dross just so the majority can get their 1 win that might keep them up, it might even get them into qf, meanwhile the county team is suffering badly cause of it, its actually anti competitive. The gap between playing senior club and intercounty in Meath now compared to other counties is worryingly massive. We all know who the 6 or so teams in senior are that don't belong, there is a few more borderline too. Finding a way to cut it back is the problem and will be met with ferocious obstruction. I'd say 80% of our senior matches are intermediate standard, lack aggression, lack skill and certainly lack intensity. Having an 8 team senior championship would help the championship, the players , the supporters eyes and the county.

I've seen this argument before and I understand it but as other posters have said, am not sure there is a correlation. Like Louth clubs are not great and they are in a Leinster Final, Armagh too are dominated by one club and there are other examples. One thing i would like to throw into the mix is that our intermediate and junior champions generally do well in their provincial championships. If you relegated 6 teams from Senior then the knock on would be to dominate those championships. So I suppose my point is, how is it that if things are that bad that our Intermediate and Junior teams do so well? I'm not sure it is as easy as we think to name the 6 teams to go down. Just looking at the leagues, they are very competitive

The last time we won the all Ireland was in 1999

We had 19 teams in senior championship so this crack of cutting it back to 8 & 10 is silly talk.

The 16 team championship works well as you also have a good relegation competition too.

If I was to change anything about the championship I would definitely have a seeded draw.

4 semi finalists in one pot

4 quarter finalists in another

3rd place in the next one

Bottom of group and intermediate winners in the other

The championship number of teams has nothing to do with the Meath team at present. Just going through a very bad moment.

There are also 16 teams in the Dublin Senior Championship, was 32 at one stage and Dublin haven't done to bad the previous 15 years!

Let's say they do go down to 12 or 8 teams in the Senior Championship, and things still don't improve, what will be the excuse then?

The amount of teams aren't the problem. More to do with how club football is run in the county, with league being an after thought and then lobsided groups being drawn come championship.

Ah there isn't really. You can call it senior 2 all ye like but everyone knows it's intermediate.

Same with the leagues in Meath. 1A and 1B. We all know 1B is Division 2.
