What a stupid comment!! There are lads on the second team for clubs like Ratoath, Summerhill, Dunboyne etc who are far better than some first team players in a lot of Junior clubs and have shown this in the league by beating these clubs and also togging out for their clubs first teams. Meath benefits from the best players in the county playing at the highest level they can, not from clubs hanging on to a status of Intermediate or Junior when they wouldn't lace the boots of some of the senior clubs second team players!!

Good god..... what an ignorant take on things. So all that matters is the meath senior football team and what's best for the them? The lads who turn up week in week out for teams but aren't making their first team don't deserve the opportunity to play in a proper meaningful championship?? Also Meath would benefit. The better standard the championships are the better for Meath football as it will improve all players. The standard of the junior A championship has fallen dramatically since they removed the strong 2nd teams from it and replaced them with teams who weren't even good enough to win Junior B.

One can only imagine the amount of disgruntled players in the likes of dublin that would walk into other countie teams,to suggest dublin should have 2nd teams is exactly the same, ridiculous

What are you on about? You keep going on about lads being good enough to make the county team. Do you think thats all that matters for club players and that every club player plays only because they are trying to get on the County panel?? And why do you keep bringing Dublin in to the conversation?? Blackspot09 (Meath) - Posts: 1095 - 05/07/2023 13:36:06 2492405 Link 0 |

What a ridiculous take. Especially with minor now under 17 there's players coming out of Meath minor and can't make their first time and they used to be able to play Junior championship against teams absolutely dying to win it in proper championship games. Now they go and play premier 1 in a competition that nobody really cares about, there's no continuity year on year. No chance to get promoted, not even the carrot of getting to represent Meath in Leinster which would have been a great incentive. Not only has getting rid of 2nd and 3rd teams from the championships reduced the quality of the Junior A and B but it's also reduced participation in bigger clubs. It's hard to get something that reduces both the elite standard and the participation

What's ironic about that post. Clearly you don't understand what ironic means.

They have 2nd team championship, where if you aren't good enough for your first team, you know that right?dublin was an example ffs, jesus wept,it could be any sport, boston celtics/new york giants,Accrington stanley, the sheer arrogance of your argument is impressive

Ok so basically your saying any player who isn't good enough to make their clubs first team doesn't deserve to play in a meaningful championship which is fit for purpose??

The championship is used as a stepping stone to build players up to senior standard. I do agree there needs to be a balance where clubs who can field a second team in championship may it be Ratoath or Ashbourne can, but they should have to name a 24 man squad that can only play 1st team. As we can all agree a few injuries on the 1st team and the second team gets decimated and it effects the standard of the competition in later rounds. I know people will say its not fair for the subs 16-24 but in alot smaller clubs them players don't get games either and don't have the luxury of a second team to compete in championship. Well clearly you haven't being paying too much attention to the state of the premier championships over the past few years if you think they are meaningful and fit for purpose.

Not sure how accurate your statement is regarding a lot of smaller clubs not having 2nd teams competing in championships is?? How many clubs didn't have a 2nd team this year? 2 or 3 max I would say.

Every club has a second team except St Paul's And Eastern Geals a lot have 3 teams It was a big mistake moving to the current model and it's been proven over and over but unfortunately admitting that and moving back is too hard a pill to swallow for CB and also the junior clubs won't vote for it A bit like turkey's voting for Christmas Until then we will have clubs celebrating junior B titles and junior A Titles knowing it's a sham as there are second teams out there who would beat them but are not allowed enter competition Just so they can feel good about themselves instead of pushing and developing to be the best they can be at the grade that suits them Awaywin (Meath) - Posts: 117 - 05/07/2023 16:47:51 2492491 Link 0 |

Your grasp of the football championship in Meath is clearly as good as your grasp of the English language!! I'd suggest learning what 'irony' means, as its not exactly relevant here at all.

Theirs no doubt the premier championship is flawed , and some clubs have milked the system, they are not breaking rules but been clever with naming top 15 and next 13 for second team taking in injury's , college's and lads away in their choices. between A-leagues and premier championships , in fact a player could indeed play in 3 championships if his club had 3 teams, eg. He could have already played in premier 3 for instance, then in premier 1 later this month and maybe make the 1st team in senior or intermediate grade later . I for one think 2nd teams should be allowed play in intermediate/ junior championships if good enough . Also 1st and 2nd teams should not have to play league games on the same date royler (Meath) - Posts: 305 - 05/07/2023 17:48:59 2492502 Link 0 |

Who's fault is that, and yes its alot fairer competition now, except the premier should be run off at the same time, stop clubs cheating

I am seeing a lot of posts here saying the quality of the Junior A and Junior B championships have fallen since second teams have been taken out, however I think the Junior A championship has never been as strong. ladshey (Meath) - Posts: 5 - 05/07/2023 17:56:51 2492505 Link 2 |

Well the 2nd teams better start stepping up then. Really poor show from them during the league campaigns with quite a few relegated and numerous walkovers given. I hear all these excuses here and there about having them out the same night a first teams and being depleted etc. Smaller clubs have challenges too and they have smaller pools of players. The junior championship this year is arguably the strongest in years. Would the strongest 2nd team contest it? I don't think so. Your point is far from valid at the moment. In the earlier rounds years ago, senior 2nd teams were quite strong but they usually began to fade after round two and the competition lacked consistency and integrity. There may have been the odd exception with Dunboyne a few years ago having an exceptional 2nd team but the junior championship was weaker at the time and is in a far stronger place now. If anything I would be stripping the 2nd teams out of the A leagues as well. Too many walkovers and not enough games being completed!
