Where are all these big name coaches (or any name for that matter) that were supposedly linked to the Meath set up? All gone very quite on this. BigJoe14 (Meath) - Posts: 1021 - 13/09/2023 08:40:58 2504072 Link 2 |

I am not too concerned about the WHO they are anyway. I certainly feel strongly about WHAT needs to be done. i will be very dissappointed if there is not a major effort to improving coaching in general. As a supporter of Colm O Rourke's efforts to improve things i think he is very well placed is his role to again draw up a shopping list of what is required in terms of correct type of resourses human and otherwise to improve standards off the field even also.Ideally this should be coming from the top table. Because i am not aware of any such developments from them.Colm is new and never afraid to speak his mind. Now is the time to say what needs to be done .As long as the objective is solely to improve standards and that alone i fully support the open and frank approach. .More of the same without updating and ugrading standards is a non runner. I am hoping Colm O Rourke does what he knows and we all know needs to be done. Personally i would take the Roy Keane approach and take the flak anyway. You wont please everyone especially those that never did ,and never will want you there. Of course youwill make mistakes like the rest of us .To grasp the nettle now would be no mistake in my view at this time

Yeh maybe....what do you suggest ?? i may have to do some research to ask myself why i am a doubter .....The review and its timing ..do you remember? lack of competion for key places at the top table last year........The floodlights fiasco.... ah shur we always did it that way attitude.....anyway we are only doing our best....technology thats only for the smart boyos , its good enough for the last 30 years. I note you dont give much by way of input yourself constructive or otherwise. Do you have to rely so heavily on one liners? Maybe your just a happy camper who will be happy with more of the same.....in that case thats your view...happy christmas ! nobull456 (Meath) - Posts: 1317 - 16/09/2023 16:06:40 2504441 Link 9 |

I thought it was obvious, my mistake. You say Colm is well placed to make changes....he's the bloody manager of course he is...my god. You say you know what needs to be done but not who...we all know what needs to be done but how about naming someone that can do it...tbh you are part of the problem imo...90s Sean boylan we are meath bullshit....Colm got the job last year and could not get a top coach in so had robbed the Meath ladies because the won....they piss off half way through the year. It's a mess. But sure look...we are meath Ed2010 (Meath) - Posts: 109 - 17/09/2023 11:16:32 2504484 Link 1 |

I want the ATTITUDE that enables the thinking behind "we are Meath " blown out of the water. As a full blooded supporter of Sean Boylan and what he achieved ( a great man ,) i am also saying in block capitals leave that era behind (no disrepect to Boylan or anyone else ) the game has moved on .So then WHATam i saying.? Its ATTITUDE CHANGE thats needed Boylan era and we are Meath disease is a major problem . It will take courage and vision to do that and one of my main reasons for being a Colm O Rourke supporter going for the job is because i believe he has both in abundance. I dont know the man from Adam .I have followed his articles many times on educational ,Youth, the value of sport as a vehicle in educational and personal development,MANLINESS is a favourite word of his if you follow his writings. Well i define MANLINESS as doing whats necessary within the law of course. Some years ago on this forum was the 3 wise men idea which i fully supported then.O Rourke was supposed to be one name mentioned as a directors of football which i applauded then. That seems to have died a death. Maybe i am asking too much he has a massive job as manager but i also want him to fully extend himself by CONFRONTING old fashioned attitues which seems to be fostered by the Top table The same" ah we are meath its good enough since 1986 "attitude that is holding back development and improvement in Meath There are plenty of examples of where key people can not "WORK" a computor when required. for example Just wondering what was the development budget for the last 2 years and how was it set and decided.? Not talking mickey mouse stuff but essential development for any modern organisation. How does it compare with best practise Dublin for example Kerry ? Donegal? ATTITUDE "ah shur" To see lack of competition for key places at the top table is not healthy .In this so called off season I am askingColm to kick the traces and get the ball rolling on modernisation in all football matters in Meath Make out a shopping list for development as a suggestion Maybe someone else is capable of this "ignition" to focus on outdated thinking BUT Colm is in a key role as manager ,and thats what i meant by being well placed to use experience gained. They will hardly refuse a genuine constructive suggestion aimed solely at improving matters only No room for point scoring or names mentioned as this is all about updating attitude collectively which will take time . We will not see any real success without this major overhaul. It would indeed be great to hear that i am not up to date, as major work has begun .I will believe it when i see it or even hear about it. nobull456 (Meath) - Posts: 1317 - 17/09/2023 16:25:38 2504509 Link 9 |

Well after reading your post I'm left scratching my head. You say you support Colm after reading his article's yet. Then you say that you put forward an idea that he should have been on a development committee. He was so was Boylan and McEntee. I heard they only met a couple of times and some of them never attended at all. Not a glowing enforcement there. You want the Boylan era buried yet he brought Boylan in with him. As of yet I see nothing that inspires me with his management hopefully he will win me over and prove me wrong but I doubt it.

Let me try to explain I supported and still support O Rourke to grasp the nettle that is there for many years. Let me say thats not solely for his ability or potential ability as manager exclusively. On manager the jury is out on that on its own ,and i think judgement can only be cast accurately when the agreed time has elapsed. I was and still am banking on Colm confronting the long standing lack of forward planning, addressing development needs at every level , continuous naval gazing and "ah shur" attitude we have development squads etc. Who measures the development squads effectiveness .who measures the effectiveness of training sessions We need leadership from the top .Your post provides an ideal example of what i mean . Some years ago the 3 wise men to me was agreat idea -3 leaders with special responsibilities aimed at improving standards great stuf i thought This idea was born out of a perceived NEED.....and then as you say the idea died a death. My crunch question is What happened the NEED? I suggest nothing except that the need is greater now through downright incompetence and lack of vision to even compare ourselves against best practice. For example look at how the REVIEW was conducted and its timing last year..embarassing! Then you hope for new blood at the top ,and then no competition for key places Is it any wonder established managers or coaches appear disinterested?? GRASP THE NETTLE means confront and expose incompetence ..For me i dont know how O Rourke will do in 2024 as manager. Even if we get to the leinster final and put in a good performance that will be still papering over the cracks. I am convinced Colm knows confrontation even to get awakening is necessary His writings ,punditry etc suggest he is wired that way Maybe he may not leave all that much by way of on field results in the next couple of years but if he grasps the nettle by way of changing the lazy outdated attitude to a more modern attitude of learning through proper reviews, relevant development to meet clearly identified needs , forward thinking and succession planning. when it can be seen that we have awakened from a slumber and really want to move on just like Dublin did .then maybe we could have competition at the top table ,Meath would be an attractive gig for good coaches or even managers going forward. I agree with your last sentence "i see nothing yet that is inspiring from this management team" but the word YET still applies.as within timeframe.

Its hard to believe its 36 years today since Sean boylan guided the royals to there fourth all ireland. Back then the "we are Meath" mantra carried with it allot of belief and putting on that jersey made lads feel 7 foot tall. Royal.Legend (Meath) - Posts: 745 - 20/09/2023 21:45:22 2505021 Link 1 |

I wish I had ur optimism. I use to be the most optimistic person. But those performances against Derry , limerick, and above all Kildare and Offaly destroyed me. The tc In winning it was good to get into real competition. But it was against average enough div 3 and 4 sides. Then the loss of garrigan (who was instrumental in the ladies) for apparently not been listened to and ignored is worrying. That been said come January I'll be out in full swing. But maybe in hope this year rather than expecting. But I truly hope you are right.

First of all this is a forum, where people go to discuss opinions, so arguing is part and parcel imo. Let's do what the kids are doing.....ok so we blindly follow...not sure that's a good policy...breeds complacency.
