Yes I still think it's a waste of time and have not said otherwise? my post was an observation of what was on display you will see nothing supporting the competition. Nice to be able to see a game in January especially two teams Cavan might meet over the next few months one in the league and the other in the championship if not both???

Galway were poor today in FBD final by all accounts, and carrying a lot of injuries, some long term like Conroy. They'll be missing the Corofin players like Ian Burke, All Star last year. A chance for Cavan to get the 2pts.

My Team v Galway
Galligan
Niall Murray, K.Clarke, Patrick O'Reilly
Ciaran Brady, Faulkner, Conor Rehill
Tomas Galligan & James Smith
Martin Reilly, Conor Bradley, Pierce Smith
Mackey
Caoimhin O'Reilly, Dara McVeety

Bring on N McKiernan in the HF line 2nd half
Bring on some of C. Madden, O. Pierson, K. Tierney in FF line for Mackey and push McVeety out into Mackey role then.

My midfield is a bit young and Half forward very light but Galway are not just monsters in their HB line and I think that is our best pound for pound 15 of what is available.

Corner backs maybe a bit controversial but I have picked them solely on man marking ability I have seen in recent seasons. I don't think McLoughlin is as tight as he used to when u21 even though he is better going forward, and would have doubts about Phillips match fitness.

Unfortunately, I would expect Walsh and Comer to get the better of any full back selection at the moment if they are picked in the FF line get the right/& enough ball.

It has been proven Kieran Mc Geeney cant do it and Rory Gallagher can do it as evidenced by last year. Hes a brilliant appointment. I wonder will paddy tally become a big game winner with Down another man that will be tested. There is a lot more to winning big games than luck e.g.. Tactics, preparation, mentality, psychology and Graham has passed those tests with Mullingachta and therefore has the abilities to pull off surprises."
Winning games with a County Team is a lot different than winning games with a Club Team, and remember, Mickey had 3 years with Mullineaghta, so he knew that team inside/out. He's only with Cavan since October, so please remove any expectations and let him enjoy his first season in charge. Hopefully, we'll see some improvement, and get a good run in Ulster, a semi-final in Ulster or a qualification for the Super 8s would be a remarkable achievement, but he needs time to put his mark on this panel.
Having said that, time for some of the so called big names to start performing consistently - this is a big season of those players, they need to stand up and be counted.

Very inexperienced team Pat. I'd be worried about defense and midfield. I'd like to have at least Argue in there with one of the lads. Crazy decision not to ask Gunner in either. He'd be starting in defense v Galway no question. Moynagh I'd imagine will be in there too. Hard to comment on forwards as not sure on squad. Is Bradley available? Also thought Johnston was called in but haven't heard anything on him. What about Magee? How far away are Fergal Reilly and Enda Flanagan from full fitness? Is Gerry Smith close?
If anyone knows the team from Kildare yesterday or the one that played Mullinalaghta on Saturday it would be a good indicator of who he thinks is close and who are on the fringes.

Not really. All good county managers are made with good successful club teams in most cases. I agree time will tell but yous only kept Mc Glennon 2 years so why give mickey 3 years or more ?? are players like Mackey, Mc Kiernan, Mc veety, Reilly either going to do it or not? The only point I was making was that Graham Has the ability to suck the best out of players i.e. Mullingachta

It was right to give Mcgleennan 2 years, which had option to extend, but he resigned.
He was a novice to County management.
Mickey Graham has at least some experience. He managed Cavan minors for 3 years. He knows the players in the County.

The top Counties. Dublin, Mayo, Kerry, Tyrone don't look for outsiders. Too many mediocre teams with mediocre outside mangers.

Cheers. Any idea of team lineup v Kildare? Anyone show well v Mullinalaghta? Very interesting to know what final panel he will choose.

In spite what the two lads lack in experience, I think they both offer more than Argue to be honest.

I think we need Faulkner at CB on the 35/45m mark holding the middle so don't really see a spot for Moynagh. Brady and Rehill have better legs to get up and down the wings like what is needed in my opinion.

I'm just assuming Bradley is available because he played so much in the McKenna cup.

I would probably put Gerry Smith in for Rehill if he was fit. I would certainly have Gunner on the panel but and fighting for the corner back spot if it was my choice.

The lads have potential but Argue has done it and been in some tough situations before. If Galway get on top there from the off we will be in serious bother and young lads may lose their way. I'd rather go with experience than potential at this stage. They will have plenty of opportunity this campaign both from the start and the bench. It's going to be very tough this weekend but a win would be a fantastic way to start off but we will need a good start to be in with a shout.

Your left wing from corner back to left half forward is very very inexperienced at inter county level.
A target man is needed at full forward to win ball with this new mark. C o Reilly is not a target man.
The only position you got right is Faulkner's .
We don't have a full back capable of holding his own around the square.

Agree about the left wing but as I said I think it's the best we have. Left corner back could be changed I suppose but I am happy with the rest of it.

I also agree about a target man being needed and that C 'O' Reilly is not that. But McVeety is our best at that I think as he showed promise there in games last year. I don't believe there is even a great plan B for him as the target man. Niall McKiernan a bug man but not a full forward.

Who else is there? James Smith? Is Ado Cole on the panel..? or was Shane Tierney asked in? Kevin Tierney getting much game time or doing well?

Probably right on the full back to hold the square like I mentioned below my team but I don't think you can say I only got one right without proposing alternatives.

Sorry it's too early to propose alternatives . Maybe these newer lads will slot in with time but it's difficult in Div 1 when your scrambling for points to try and stay up.
Micky will have a better idea after the 1st game . I'd like to see a place for Jack Brady in the full forward line. I think he has the potential to be something special if given a run of games.
Perseverance is the name of the game from now on. Give a player a run of games to make his mark . Players play on their confidence and if they are going to get hauled off after 45 minutes in their 1st game well it's not going to do their confidence much good.
Sometimes switching a player position wise can be more beneficial than hauling him off.

Best of luck to the Cavan team, a big test on Sunday - it will let us know where we are but was anyone else surprised to read in the Celt last week where Mickey stated "we are probably a couple of years behind a lot of teams in ulster at the moment" (in terms of conditioning) - why ..? Surely the likes of G mK, dara mcvetty, killian clarke, martin reilly, p faulkner, c brady, c moynagh among others are not two years behind in strength and conditioning ..? If that's the case then it reflects very badly on the previous management team.

I would agree that new additions or returnees to the squad would be behind alright but your core players should be conditioned for inter county level. I hope this is not an thinly disguised excuse if things go pear-shaped this year. I have heard all these kind of reasons before - a young team, inexperienced etc. but that core group of players I have named (and there are obviously more) have been with Cavan a number of seasons so should have conditioning (and experience) to compete with the rest else we are in for a long hard season. Finally "behind a lot of teams in ulster" I would have said behind Tyrone, Donegal and Monaghan but not a lot of teams - its refreshingly honest but perhaps Mickey has now worked with the players, seen where we are and wants to dampen expectations!

nail on the head, these excuses of ''building'' need to stop. the time to do it is now, as it was 3-4 years ago.
telling lads like that that theres a bedding in or building period is only offering excuses for them if and when they fail
