I'm reading a lot of talk about putting certain players in certain places in defence here , the reality was the weekend against Galway is that we had our best defenders available to us bar maybe one or two , The fact is Galway opened us up at the backs with ease . At the minute we don't have enough of players that is Div 1 standard . I was disappointed that we didn't seem that organised ,players indecisive on the ball , free takers from the right side should be pre organised. It's not all gloom we did start well, missed too much in the first half and then our shape fell apart in the second half , hopefully lessons was learned from it, and they can re group for the Kerry game and iron out the issues

We have to get men running off the shoulder in advanced positions. It's just not happening at the minute. In fairness, some good ball went into Madden and Jack in the first half but not enough. It means our half forwards can't play on the front foot and get into scoreable positions
It seemed Barry Fortune was CHB in the first half but hard to know who was there in the second. As other posters have said it is a major problem position.

My team for competing with Kerry at the weekend based on last week.
Jack Brady showed well so should hold his place.
I think the Fortune's are a bit lightweight yet for what we are going to be up against with Kerry. I also think a full time sweeper is needed and Murray is the man for that job on this occasion. Faulkner at CB and a defensive minded half back line altogether that is still mobile.
I also prefer James Smith to Argue, and think it is very important to get Ciaran Brady into a settled position where he can focus on driving forward for us and being that overlap or the ball carrier for others to overlap off that people are talking about so have put him in as a wing forward.
The whole in-game rotation and running man coming on doing horse whispers is also over complicated nonsense to needs to be eradicated as well.
I think Mickeys tactics were a bit more simple than doing that carry on with Mullinaghta and look forward to seeing him getting our team and tactics back to everyone being on the same hymn sheet without constant intervention. I fear this is something that county teams feel they need to do to gain an edge but actually think it does more harm than good and wouldn't have the Dubs at it too often for instance..
My hope for the weekend is that we look defensively solid through the spine of the team and can stop the runners coming throw, and that we attack with purpose and don't cower away from a road block blanket defence by playing lateral hand passing that gets us nowhere.
Again I can stomach a loss and a few wides, its more about the performance. Although the wides should be decreasing week on week.

Kerry at home is a huge opportunity this weekend. There is nobody expecting a Cavan win so its a free shot in a way.
Our opponents will be very confident despite all their attempts to talk down their chances. We have to give them something to think about early on and make a real contest out of it.
The scoring return from the starting forwards was poor against Galway- 2 points from play. Cavan still could and probably should have won the match but for the black cards. Weather is forecast dry overhead with little breeze on Sunday (who knows if this will be the case??), and Breffni pitch will be in great nick so no excuses. Under those conditions Kerry will surely rack up a 14-15 point tally at least. Have we got a forward combination to beat that? Goals will be needed.
Starting forwards:
Martin Reilly, Mackey , C. Brady,
Jack, Argue, McVeety
Clarke and Galligan in midfield. That half forward line can defend from the front and get on attacking ball too.
Hold Madden and Smith in reserve for Argue and Mackey who will both tire.

Big big performances needed from some of our lesser heralded players in order to get anything from this game. Kerry have a less experienced panel from last time we played but that is in no small part to the fact that some of the more established players who started that day didn't even get a call up to their panel this year. They have an embarrassment of riches especially up front. Last day we played we also had Mossy and Gearoid starting midfield and got a good half hour plus out of Mackey. Our free taking played a big part in the draw too with some crucial pressure kicks converted. So here's hoping some new players step up to the mark and give us lots to be positive about going forward. Good luck to all.

How can Christopher Conroy start at corner back why is he being stifled there. Am I missing something for I have watched this player for several years now and I can never recall him playing at corner back. I am open to correction off course. From last week listed starting 15 the only position that has been changed is the corner backs the rest is as it was.
We lost last Sunday so no one has been dropped which gives the impression that the management are more than happy.
I worry about this set up going forward. Surely someone else must have stood out over the championship to be brought in. Out from Rehill and Smith there are no one else. Kevin Tierney has been around a while now so if fit he has to be given the chance to show the potential most people knows he has for we have been shouting for him to be brought in for several years now for we have seen the flashes of ability we know that he has. Sitting in the dug out is not the place for him for if he rots there he will walk once again. Should we lose Sunday it will be a struggle to get enough points to stay up and the bookies have Kerry money on to win and they are always very close when they lay the odds. Should Kerry beat us by 8 points or there about's it is as bad as a five point catch up on the table.
The League has to be priority for this new management forget about anything else for now. Relegation will be a disaster for it will destroy the moral of supporters and players alike.

You're missing plenty Sean. Martin Reilly will likely drop back and that's not to say Conroy will start. Changes to teamsheet likely and there will definitely be positional switches. And Kevin Tierney did get a run last Sunday and going on that he will be walking nowhere in a hurry anytime soon.

What's the feeling in Cavan regarding the visit of the Kerry men? I see a bit of ill discipline caught you out last week against Galway. Kerry have free takers that can punish that but if ye cut out fouling within range we could struggle to score or create scoring chances. Our defence was tight las week but we coughed up a lot of scoring chances from play.
