Hard to argue. Who would you have full back and CHB by the way? I suppose at this stage it's neither here nor there and we won't know where we really are until Clarke is fit and some of the others are back like Caoimhin O'reilly, McKiernan and Gerry Smith. But it looks like the league will be a slog and Championship this year and Division 2 next year is where we hopefully might see some progress. It would be nice to get to Division 1 at some stage with a reasonably settled team and strong spine. Hardtimes (Cavan) - Posts: 1056 - 28/01/2019 15:35:29 2160436 Link 0 |

Centre back, midfield, maybe wing back for a while as well. But definitely not holding the middle on the 35/45m line anyway. Nor were those who were switched in there or started there at either throw up.

The best performance I've seen from a Cavan player at CHB since Alan Clarke retired was Killian Clarke in Castlebar 2 years ago. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5333 - 28/01/2019 17:16:48 2160478 Link 0 |

He spent a lot of time corner and wing forward.

Nobody knew where they were suppose to be playing because you had a Selector running on the pitch every 5 minutes giving out instructions. Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 28/01/2019 18:40:23 2160514 Link 0 |

I think he may have played there a couple of times but not sure. Sure worth a try but we have had a few one off good performances in that position by plenty of lads but nothing near consistent. But definitely, he has the natural physique anyway. Long term, lads on the lighter side are a waste of time. Might be time to set our stall there, pick a lad and let him get a good run of games and put up with a few poor performances in the short term.

There was some amount of in game switching going on alright. Couldn't keep track.

There are too many light lads on the team. Like plastic bags in the wind. foxes_denn (Cavan) - Posts: 129 - 28/01/2019 19:36:23 2160530 Link 0 |

James McEnroe was a good centre back too. Not sure why he isn't involved had work commitments before.. Or might not have been asked FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2950 - 28/01/2019 19:55:48 2160532 Link 0 |

Clarke at fullback with Faulkner at CB is the way to go. Let Holla attack from wingback without the responsibility of CB Cavan-Hero (Cavan) - Posts: 27 - 28/01/2019 21:22:09 2160558 Link 0 |

He seemed to be playing in full forward line in first half. Then he drifted out as game went on

What a pity. That game might just have been our best chance of two points in this div. Galway were no great shakes, especially in the first half when we were actually dominating them in possession terms. Two things cost us the game, poor discipline and a continued insistence on our now 8 year old lateral passing game. Thank God our best player is our keeper. He was magnificent. Galway only attacked us three times in the first half and carved us open each time. Fast determined direct running at us supported off the shoulder, not rocket science. ondforty (Cavan) - Posts: 471 - 28/01/2019 22:25:33 2160589 Link 0 |

How many of ye were at the game? Holla was wearing 6 but he clearly wasn't playing centre back. He lined out in the forward line. Goes to show the level of knowledge on here, I suppose you all think Killian Clarke was midfield because he had no9 on his back gowna02 (Cavan) - Posts: 99 - 29/01/2019 12:32:24 2160683 Link 1 |

Agree. But do you not think new lads can be nervous enough without a man running in every 5 minutes to be having a full scale chat with a player. Let them play and express themselves. Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 29/01/2019 13:01:27 2160702 Link 0 |

Good to see Galligan coming out confident today about the next 2 matches. Kerry wont travel well and the site of a big crowd at Breffni will sicken them as they have a lot of young lads. Think we should try Killian at CHF this week he could do a lot of damage passing the ball in for Marks. foxes_denn (Cavan) - Posts: 129 - 29/01/2019 13:31:47 2160714 Link 0 |

Cavan were clearly rotating players into FF for rest periods. Holla was not Full Forward for any more than a couple of minutes.

The same thing was happening the past couple of years with Lorcán Martin, constantly running on like a Road runner..

Agree Galligan played very well and brought off a point blank save in the first half. His kick outs had great length and accuracy also. But your right Galway did carve us open when they attached on the few occasions. They are probably one of the poorer sides in the Div on last Sunday's display. We will be lucky now to get anything from any game playing like we did last Sunday. Poor stuff , nobody seem to know what position they were suppose to be playing in.Faulkner was even unlucky for a goal chance and he was playing full back and the full forward seem to be playing as a half back most of the time. Confusing stuff. Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 29/01/2019 17:26:47 2160771 Link 0 |

Extremely optimistic. IMO Kerry are much better in the forward line than 2 years ago. Taking McKiernan out of the equation we are worse and will struggle for scores. That's not even taking into account Kerry held Tyrone to 7 points at the weekend. Fair enough Tyrone held them to 11 but there is no way I can see our defense doing similar. If they get a run on us early they could really go to town on us. I hope I'm wrong but we had one runner to worry about on Sunday and we could not handle it at all.
