Replying To royaldunne: "Well joe. Over the past couple of days everything has clammed up. My source (won't mention anyone) has said the committee have closed up and nothing is getting out. The only thing I know is Flynn (his own admission) fitzmorris (widely know about) and the club who nominated geraghty. If I were to wager I think the expense bill of EF might scare the cb, and the committee might go with Flynn. But and I'm quoting my source here "Flynn had agreed to let the u20 play with seniors, and he got nervous about how well they'd do (or lack of after challenge games) and looked for a excuse " the cb are very split on him and he might not get through, so the compromise imo will be a joint management ala Tyrone, with Flynn and geraghty . I think I stated early on that Flynn wanted geraghty and biggy on his ticket geraghty been nominated himself put a little spanner in the works. But with joint management and biggy and perhaps Giles or O'Malley along with scully would be where my money is going at the minute, cb won't go for Flynn on his own geraghty is the selling point." If the above is true we would be in division 3 for 2024 and on the look out for a new management.

Thanks RD, I was aware of the u20 issue alright. I'd say that might be why there is a delay, looking for the parties to agree to a compromise.

RD who's scully?? Or did you mean Shane Supple? I'm guessing the later and that's a honest mistake there. Think he was involved in the U20 backroom team with Bernard. The huge concern I would have is that Bernard doesn't seem to have a trainer/coach of any substance on his ticket. There's no Cian O'Neill, Donie Buckley or Peter Donnelly on the ticket, but maybe that'll be resolved after they'd be appointed.

Shouldn't be any appointment without that absolutely critical & major detail satisfied first....
Donie Buckley is a free agent so to speak, so youd hope some of them had the sense to snap him up on their ticket if they hadnt already got a very strong candidate there.
@royaldunne - just regarding the expense issue & any concerns that the CB might have around that for EF. As I had said her previously, if he's a viable option & is willing to commit, then finance should come secondary. And even at that, I cant see how they cant be somehow imaginative about getting sponsors or some donor on board to help with this, its common place in other counties where similar has taken place. Id be disappointed if its a thing they did got put off by finance after having 2 meetings with him & given that they identified him as their number 1 target.... That doesnt reflect well on them if they hadnt allowed for the expense. Jesus even posters on here had flagged that straight away that the logistics of getting him here would have a cost, but Id have expected that the CB would have seen that & mitigated against that in their overall projection?? And again, I'm sure there are "outside the box" ideas to help make it work against the costs. Like for example, both of our football sponsors have helicopters... Our hurling sponsor build & develop houses/apartments all over the county & beyond. So surely getting him up from Kerry to Dunganny in a timely manner & providing a room for nights he isnt travelling back should be negotiated with relative ease if they were the hurdle in place? Beyond that we are into remuneration, which again, they surely weren't expecting him to do on a charity basis.... Any top manager is going to have a cost, so I'm sure they had their eyes open when perusing that too.
BTW RD, I'm questioning the validity of anything you are saying, more questioning the noises you are hear from the CB itself if they are the concerns that they have.

Agree with everything you say Jinxie, and this is why I'm not sure what's coming out is accurate. I'm not sure i believe the Fitzmaurice stuff at all, it's heresay from one poster on here. Apart from Flynn who's said in the meeejjjjaaa he's in for the job no one else know's a thing. And we all know this county board can't keep it's lips shut.
Its all speculation and conjecture. But lets play the game anyways ;)
I'd fully believe that this county board/ executive had an idea the Fitzmaurice was their preferred candidate and hadn't thought of the logistics. There's plenty of lads on here (and you'd be one of the first I'd pick) who have far more common sense, know how and foresight to actually think about what is the actual cost of getting Fitzmaurice or any other top class manager on board.
Eamonn on his own will easily cost 100K Eur a year in expenses between new car annually, fuel, mileage allowances, servicing, tax and insurance on said car, tolls (there's at least 4 between here and limerick if not more..) meal allowances, subsistence for overnight stays etc and that's before the "hidden expenses" wink wink ;) And Eamonn is going to bring some top class guys with him who are also going to need paying, so unless we've a couple of hundred grand buried under the stand in Pairc Tailteann which is there every year this is why i suggest that it's pie on the sky.
I think it was thejowshow said there might be a sponsor lined up for Eamonn or another top candidate if there's one coming in to help with the costs and you'd certainly hope that's the case.
I honestly think the county board do think he'll do it out of the goodness of his own heart and will be shocked and stunned when he tells them the costs involved and they don't bend the knee. Look at their attitude to Colm O'Rourke when he told them almost 20 years ago the costs involved in keeping Meath at the forefront of Gaelic Football. And O'Rourke wasn't wrong and it's factors of what he would've told them then that are required to get us even competitive.
This is where I'll give Andy McEntee his due's he got Meath competitive almost in spite of the county board. I fully believe, and he should be rightly commended for it, that the man had his heart and desire for the betterment of Meath football at the forefront of his plans. And he achieved it in 2019 on a shoestring of what a top class outside guy would've cost and will cost moving forward.
Ultimately I think this Fitzmaurice, Malachy O'Rourke, Jim McGuinness and Jim Gavin talk is just that, Talk to look like they did something and garner a modicum of goodwill, and if they actually did do something and spoke to these people they were immediately put off when told what monetary figures would be involved.
Your first sentence is very telling Shouldn't be any appointment without that absolutely critical & major detail satisfied first. I honestly doubt the county board have even thought in those terms.

As I said earlier it's a two horse and I am 100% sure of Flynn being one horse but fitzmaurice could have said no since, as your very rightly say if o rourke couldn't get the control and structure he needed why on earth would the CB want eamonn to operate any differently. I can be certain the other horse isn't McDermott though for what it's worth and as we currently speak there is no Geraghty on Flynns ticket.
I wouldn't be shocked if the 4 externals were approached out of optics and the committee got a shock if eamonn asked for details!

Well Royaldunne,is o Malley name on the Flynns ticket or is it somone you would like to see on it?While he would have probably more experience than the three others put together it was a good while ago.He was part of O briens backroom team 2010 (open for correction)and was involved with the Meath under 21 s back in the late 90s early 2000.He was also over the Cilles but again that was 15/20 years ago and as far as I know hasn't been involved in much since 2010.While I would think he would do well its interesting if he does go back into football scene.Maybe his connection with Flynn having both played for the Cilles and Meath would be it.On Flynn it's a worry very little experience and when you take into account whether you agree or disagree he walked out on the under 20s,what if thinks dont go well will he just walk out on the seniors after 6 months, year or 2?How would those under 20 lads feel about playing for him again?Geraghty has a bit of experience with Duleek and is in with senschtown now but inter county is a big step up.Biggy (while I know is a favourite of yours)has little to no experience think he managed a ladies club team and while he does coach school kids through the Cilles again alot of posters on here would do that myself included.I am not having a pop at anyone here (fair play to them for stepping up)but the lack of experience would be a real concern to me.

Well summed up, selection panel is being led by the person who thought there was no need for a timely review last year, dont think he is the right man to head up team tasked with appointing new manager. I fear majority of talk around high profile manager is down to optics, to be seen to do the right thing and attempt to head off any future questions. Lots of talk about various options, however to date only BF is a cert to go forward. Imagine it would be near impossible to keep names under wraps no matter how tight lipped selection panel are. Situtation should become clearer over next week or so.

Like Jinxie I'd include you in that cohort of lads that can see through things and be realistic and reasoned in their views. On your other post A very common and real concern we all rightly have is a lack of experience with any internal set up i concur with this. I think there's a huge lack of an astute manager within the county who's tactically aware and can play with multiple ways to meet the modern game. Has any manager in the club game won a couple of senior championships since Eamonn Barry with Dunshaughlin back at the turn of the millenium?? I also think there's a lack of a coach or trainer with the ability to get the team fitter, faster, stronger and improve the basic skills of team play.

There was always a part of me that suspected the EF thing when I first heard it was that it could be a safety net to say, look, we tried, heres who we went for & we couldnt agree, so now shut up and take who we are giving you.....
Now if that is what plays out, & it could possibly be the case, its a risky enough strategy from the committee in that, it could backfire badly. As in, was it really realistic, or was it an attempt at the impossible to say it was done??
Like you you were asked to go & get a sponsor for the local club, & after a month came back later with nothing, but said ya rang Elon Musk but just couldnt agree on it.... While itd have looked amazing had you landed it, realistically, what were you wasting your time for on a red herring. Then afterwards the closer to home options who you overlooked start to come out of the woodwork & make it know that theyd have done it only for they were never asked..... Youd find yourself in a sticky situation..... So While Id love the EF thing to be true & to happen, if it actually is just a poster story, then Id hope theyve done plenty of realistic work closer to home...

Same here and often times Brian is both sides of the same coin we argue. Agree with all that and I really am very concerned if we get this appointment wrong we could fall down the tiers rapidly.
=================================================================================================
Tis amazing that you and I and so many can see things and where they're headed, that the county board are about to waste another batch of talented players (which they have done with the 2012 minor team) and yet the county board seems to be absolutely oblivious to what is obvious to Stevie Wonder.
Its a very sad state of affairs we're finding ourselves in and unfortunately i think some within the executive will happily continue to watch the slide into irrelevance continue.
Look at the players we've lost from the county to other sports - Nash and McBride to AFL, Oisin McCloskey to Rugby, several young lads to soccer. the days of Gaelic football being king in Meath are rapidly disappearing. Will we continue to lose lads to other sports form those minor teams coming through, will lads on the senior panel want to hang around. Take Jordan Morris who's already transferred to Kingscourt, would he consider a move to Cavan too?
We're right on the precipice at the moment ready to be tipped over the edge. Its that serious in my eyes. And the wrong appointment now could be the fatal blow.

Replying To Thejoeshow: "I'd be surprised if we didn't have a much better idea by Friday" Sounds good, at least new management in place for county championship, get the chance to look at options for panel.

Replying To seadog54: "Sounds good, at least new management in place for county championship, get the chance to look at options for panel." i don't think Bernard Flynn had a hope hell in getting the job especially after what happened with the U20 squad.
Malacy o 'rourke is probably the only viable candidate for the job. Although we said that in 2012 with Banty and look how that turned out! My personal choice would be Fitzmaurice but that will never happen.
