Agh here, where was he condoning anything, now you're making stuff up to suit your own argument. The lad stated , as I have on many occasions that this happens, and happens to the best of managers but that it's in the minority. Look at what Andy himself spoke about on OTB AM last week, said he'd rather focus on the man from Collon who sent him letters about games, or the lady from Tullamore. The only person i see on here on here throwing out abuse is yourself with your constant reference to Keyboard warriors and calling anyone who picks you up on things a nameless faceless bully that you will stand up too. I'd say 95% of the lads and ladies on here are critical of what they saw on the pitch and lack of preparation from Andy and his management team and they hope these things are fixed. And rightly so, people are paying hard earned money to travel and support the team and time's are tough, so i think they're entitled to talk about it on a forum which is there to allow people to do so. It seems anyone who's critical is a keyboard warrior or condoning them in your eyes. Yet when the hard questions are asked of you you clam up and don't respond. I seem to remember you hammering the players last week claiming they're just not good enough despite blowing them up 6 weeks ago before they faced Dublin, and that history might reflect well on Andy (and i see the point you're making). You were well able to hammer 30+ lads who are giving of their time, energy and efforts but when i asked you if that wasn't abuse there wasn't a dickie bird from you in response as you knew you'd no leg to stand on. For the last god knows how long you've hammered Mick O'Dowd relentlessly, long after he was no longer involved you still blamed him for faults with the team, again a man who gave of his time in the same manner as Andy and yes he wasn't good enough for the job and committed just as many mistakes as Andy but yet I don't think one person said you were abusing him, until you started on about how everyone was abusing Andy and that it was a poison chalice. As I've said to you many times before, maybe think before you speak and stop being so confrontational, everyone here is entitled to an opinion what ever that is. Try and understand their point of view, as they do with you and that no one is on here abusing anyone, merely discussing something they're just as passionate about as you are. brian (Meath) - Posts: 2000 - 20/06/2022 10:15:14 2426272 Link 19 |

Great post nobull456 and as you rightly say i hope they do have a full and detailed description but i have no faith in that being the case at all. I think history has shown that this county board has a very poor communication style as proven with the flynn fiasco last year, Pairc tailteann upgrade, attempted coup of Andy's role with no alternative in place. I think ultimately it will be about WHO the person is and if they're a known name. brian (Meath) - Posts: 2000 - 20/06/2022 10:20:13 2426274 Link 3 |

Some great post by people this morning and hopefully things will start moving along. As one of you has said, no one can be ruled in or out at this stage and we hopefully have people involved in the process of selecting the next manager who have a list of those key skills which are needed to bring things on to another level. We have 3 leinster winning minor teams who'll form the base of the team for the next decade and whomever is coming in has to have the ability to bring those players in whilst hopefully keeping some of the older heads about to allow these young guys to develop to their full potential. the next manager needs to be working hand in glove with John McCarthy and Cathal O'Bric to know everything they need to about those lads and how they'll fit into the future of Meath football. The next 3-5 years is a huge period in Meath Football as we need the minor team of 2018 to take on the leadership and bring in the 20 and 21 players from 2024 onwards. If we lose those 3 teams then we're well and truly screwed. brian (Meath) - Posts: 2000 - 20/06/2022 10:33:08 2426282 Link 1 |

I think that's my fear and it will be about WHO. I would imagine there is some degree of support for Bernie given he went public letting people know he has put his name forward, he is a smart man and wouldn't do that without some degree of confidence in his chance. I will support whoever is in the job with a blank slate but I have a nagging feeling this sort of appointment could set us back rather than bring us on purely for the lack of experience at that level. I agree Joe, and if we appoint someone based off WHO they are then we're screwed before we start and are washing rinsing and repeating rather than learning from our errors with what has happened since Boylan left the role. This needs to be the right person for the role and if it takes a month or two to get done but there's a clear vision of how things will progress then that would be great. As you say no matter what I'll support whoever gets the role like everyone before them. brian (Meath) - Posts: 2000 - 20/06/2022 10:52:33 2426295 Link 2 |

Thats pretty much what Banty is with Monaghan now. A facilitator. He has brought in very high level coaches & fitness people over past few years. So I guess if Flynn put together an impressive back room with a strong, modern coach with a good track record, then he couldn't be dismissed... I agree with ye lads about getting someone with experience of intercounty but there have been a lot of average enough journeymen managing intercounty teams who must have managed 3/4 at this stage - I think we should avoid them. That leaves you with likes of Gilroy or Gavin who unless they see it as a kind of duty towards GAA to get Meath back competing and an interesting project, I can't see them coming on board. However I think likes of a Paul Clarke or a Davey Byrne might be interested and given they've worked closely with Jim Gavin, I'd be pleased to see what they might do. Some might baulk at a Dub in charge but we need to embrace the Dubs in the county and bring them into the culture of our county and these lads live in Meath. So I'd go for a Paul Clarke (who has managed Dublin teams) with a backroom of likes of Jason Sherlock (a genius forward coach), Shane Supple and then a few Meath lads. Now none of these people might be interested but we have expertise on our doorstep honed in the being involved with greatest ever team, be a shame not to avail of it. Really well said Crinigan about trying to bring the likes of Clarke, Byrne, Sherlock, Curran Deegan etc in to the Meath fold if the were interested. Anyone with the small minded mentality of thinking we don't need Dubs taking over our team needs a kick in the pants. Whilst i respect your feelings, we don't have an outstanding internal candidate and if one or more of those lads put their hands up they're top of the likely list of candidates. Unfortunately I think some at county board level, who'll be charged with approving the next manager, are those most likely to say we don't needs "Dubs" in charge of Meath and it'll be a non runner. Also great points by Jinxie, if you can get in a facilitator who can surround himself with the best of coaches etc then A Bernard Flynn is perfectly suitable. The one thing I'd caveat that with is Andy brought in Nally who was a supposed guru and look at how under prepared we looked. I said in the warm ups v Dublin and Clare we were beaten. Whomever the manager is they have to also have the ability to see where things are going wrong and fix them quickly, not allow them to continue for years out of loyalty. brian (Meath) - Posts: 2000 - 20/06/2022 11:48:52 2426332 Link 7 |

Well all, it's hard to know what too want ,one side of me says we need someone with an experienced CV to take over and steady the ship and move us on but Andy had an experienced CV and in the end didnt work out or give someone a try with not such an impressive Cv and maybe they can be successful you have to start somewhere. On Flynn Fab player for us but has he much management under his belt?I know he was involved with teams in Westmeath and Laois I think (opened for correction here)but had he much success? His selectors for under 20s was Graham geraghty and Gramhan Reilly.Geraghty would certainly install belief and passion but again he was over Duleek and didnt pull up any trees (not having a go at anyone by the way)and Reilly as far as I know was involved with a ladies team here or there again not much experience so would that be an issue?in saying that the 3 lads were very good for each teams they played in and you would imagine have the respect of most lads although be interesting to see what the under 20 lads they were over think of them after what happened there. If going with lack of experience option then surely Cathal o bric and McCarthy should be considered as they know the young lads coming through inside out and know what makes them tick and would have the respect of the young lads straight away.I would like Malachy o Rourke in,a clean slate, experienced coach who done wonders with Fermanagh and Monaghan, would have the respect of the dressing room straight away, older members of the team might give it a lash for 1 or 2 more years cant afford to lose their experience around the team but I could see him going to Donegal if that job becomes available.Whoevercthe manager is will get my 100 percent support as always. You would be mad not to tap into the dubs experience, beggars can't be choosers, definitely we don't need the journeyman who hasn't achieved much either

Yes But i think the common denominator is we all WANT the same thing i.e. the right person to fill the NEED.I believe that NEED is to bring forward new approach from the top to filling the role . WHAT is the job description so that is the number one question! Has a job description been issued by the CB ?If it hasnt why not? because we never did that before is not an acceptable answer. So if that hasnt happened at this point we could be on the road to more of the same. So that is the REAL issue to begin with. Why should the job description not be made known now to at least a forum such as this? Yes we all know that only a small percentage of Meath supporters read this forum.. .Wont it serve to indicate that the CB are really trying to learn from mistakes. WHO gets the job is not even for discussion untill we see what applicant best suits the job description. If that man happens to even be a Russian so be it. Lets not take our eye off the ball ,and the ball is the "job description" for now.

"beggars cant be choosers"we are nowhere near that point. I say the opposite .We must aim high . I suggest the bullet points on the job description should support that Each bullet point starting with " the applicant must have demonstrated a capability at a high level (inter county) in " listing the key skills such as assembling a back room team, man management, tactical awareness etc etc. NO SHORT CHANGING the role and its importance. I have no doubt if it was apparent that Meath (whilst now in the doldrums). have now a passionate desire to do what they have done before rise to the top again. Wouldnt it be nice to say " look at how proffesional the county board have become " for example " Look how clearly they articulate what they need and how they plan to implement and monitor their objectives Look at how they are dealing with succession planning etc. Meath managers job is not attractive at present. Let potential top quality applicants SEE we mean business ,and then we will not be begging from anyone. If it can be seen the powers that me mean business with a proffessional approach i really do believe the sky is the limit . Mickey mouse excuses would become redundant . We Meath are in charge of our own destiny!

Nobull nobody is going to argue that you are right and the CB isn't doing this correctly and don't do a lot of things right. However this thread is on the new Meath manager and the deadline for applications passes today so they aren't going to change the process which is clubs nominate who they see fit provided there is permission and the 3 man committee will review these. I fully agree they should have minimum standard and qualifications you need to apply but that is not the case and won't be I'm afraid. This is why the WHO will be very important and certain applicants without experience will be considered. It is an old school process but that's not going to change in the next 12 hours. If that avenue does not yield results then they have the right to approach people who might be willing to discuss the job description ,and how they might fit. I certainly agree that people witout experience can be considered for various roles related to backroom and succession planning. Right now still aim high ,and make the job attractive by demonstrating a more proffesional approach. Really no hurry at this point. We do all thats needed to get the right person . Also deadlines are for extending if necessary.

Last 2 years were bad but taken as a whole I'd argue overall Andy did well as Meath manager. We mightn't like it but in last 2 decades we ususlly are not in division 1. Andy first Meath manager to get us there (for only 1 year I know) and then backed this up by getting to super 8's. He was also seemed to up our preparation in terms of fitness.

Well No bull, you make a valid point there alright most jobs that are advertised will say 2/3 years experience required etc or whatever or this criteria to be met before you get a chance to be interviewed as to maximize the quality (on paper at least)of candidates looking for the job.It is professional to do this as you rightly say but what would you have as a minimum requirement?Inter county success?,at least a club county championship maybe two? That would be the danger part would you rule someone out just because they didn't win a county final say they lost it by a last kick of a ball.Take Lar wall (I'm not saying he should get the job just making a point) he was seconds away from winning it with Kells but got suckerpunched with a last gasp goal so that would rule him out of the job but say Brian Farrell (again just using him as an example)he could get the job but is their much difference between them as a manager or coach?again I'm not saying Farrell or wall should get the job but would you rule someone out who with a bit of luck would be a county champion etc.Aim high by all means and if we get a top manager happy days but I dont know about what the criteria should be for the job that is .I'd do get your point the more professional you are the more likely you are to get quality people interested but you could also lose someone very good who just hasn't reached a certain requirement just yet.

Nonsense post. Becoming very common from yourself lately unfortunately. Again trying to whitewash abuse. Here's a idea if the man and his two children said he was abused and threatened. Why should you or me or anyone not believe him ? You downplaying it doesn't make it right. And again I will state I will Come after EVERY troll, faceless cowardly keyboard warrior that there is. If anyone has a problem with that come see me at a match. But they won't. Cause as I said. Cowards is all they are. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 20/06/2022 18:08:08 2426463 Link 0 |

Severely doubt we'll hear that much about it Joe, unfortunately. There'll be plenty of rumor and conjecture in the meejjjaaaa about it but i doubt we'll know much of anything until there's something to report. brian (Meath) - Posts: 2000 - 20/06/2022 18:18:50 2426465 Link 0 |

Know Bernard well. I'd consider him a friend and I'm sure he would feel the same way about me. We haven't met up as much since covid. I'll tell him to his face what I will say here (I'm not one of the many faceless keyboard warriors on here with a agenda). He would need a extremely good back room team behind him, he had a bad run at shamrocks but that shouldn't exclude him. Again he would need something similar to the back room team he had when he went for 20s. He'd no doubt have graham Reilly (fellow cilles man) probably graham geraghty, Robbie O'Malley, and Supple. But I think we need a tactician in there too. So be interesting to see who else he may have.
