New Meath Manager

Replying To Thejoeshow:  "Ah RD "has to start somewhere", senior intercounty is not the place to cut your teeth even if he is your clubman."
Coyle hadn't done anything neither had O'Malley neither had Kelly or O'Brien under boylan. Again Johnny Doyle in Kildare too. So I think it's fair to say vast vast majority of selectors in county and indeed in country had little or no experience. I don't see the problem with that. Giles hadn't done anything apart from physio when he was appointed with mod. Kelly had and it didn't work out good for either. Gerry mcentee with Andy. I believe anyone could do job of selector if they have played at highest level. I've said before that at the time of mod appointment geraghty should have got it as he had evans with him. Rumours have it (since my post this morning) that actually geraghty has been nominated himself by at least one club.
Anyway it's a mute point from my perspective as I do believe the best and the available candidate is Malachy orurke. Who his back room team may be I have no idea. But of those mentioned so far he is the stand out no1 I believe. I will get behind whoever is manager, but we are at a very difficult juncture and I believe we need experience to guide us through next few years, build on the positives and fix the negatives. I mean no disrespect to any of those nominated or mentioned but for me Malachy is the only one who ticks the necessary boxes, plus he won't care less about club allegiances or the politics that for so long has hampered Meath football.

I am going to retract some of my criticisms of the CB process for time being as they are definitely aiming high externally aswel as the internal process. I don't think they will convince the names at the top of the list but showing ambition if nothing else

Who are the outside candidates that they are pursuing? An outside high quality manager is what Meath require.

Replying To royaldunne:  "Nonsense post. Becoming very common from yourself lately unfortunately. Again trying to whitewash abuse. Here's a idea if the man and his two children said he was abused and threatened. Why should you or me or anyone not believe him ? You downplaying it doesn't make it right. And again I will state I will
Come after EVERY troll, faceless cowardly keyboard warrior that there is. If anyone has a problem with that come see me at a match. But they won't. Cause as I said. Cowards is all they are."
And once more into the breach we go.........

Where am i whitewashing abuse and again where did Cringan condone any abuse? Where did either of us say it didn't happen? Where did either of us say anything about not believing what was said or sent? Because if you took the time you'll see neither of us did condone it or say it didn't happen. None of us are downplaying the abuse or saying it didn't happen, merely pointing out there's idiots everywhere and that this happens to even successful managers. I mentioned the fact that on OTB AM Andy himself said it was water of a ducks back and he'd prefer to focus on the people who sent him messages of support, that as a society we focus on the negative, rather than talk about the support we get that no one ever hears about. I'll take my lead on it from the man himself, and say well done to those people.

As always in your need to go two footed you totally missed the point of what i said in my post and what Crinigan said in theirs.

Also here's an interesting quote "And again I will state I will Come after EVERY troll, faceless cowardly keyboard warrior that there is. If anyone has a problem with that come see me at a match. But they won't. Cause as I said. Cowards is all they are."

Could you do me a favour if the above is true. Have you noticed the quote from this person who's very well able to dish out abuse?? "Nonsense post. Becoming very common from yourself lately unfortunately."

You're well able to dish out the abuse yourself RD and then shy away when people ask you tough questions that you chose not to respond too. Does that as you say make you a...... troll, faceless cowardly keyboard warrior..... Cowards is all they are..............

Most people on here i can have a disagreement with but they're all able to debate their point of view in a respectful manner and understand that other people have opinions which differ from their own. I've often had differing viewpoints to Leitrim, Joe, Longwood and many others but been ale to openly discuss the points without resorting to name calling. And long may that continue lads and ladies, you're the people who make this forum worthwhile.

Is there an article or news on this joe? Would be interested to hear some of the names being mentioned? As you say some top names can be ruled out straight away but will be interesting to see who candidates are??

No articles Brian but some of those names we all (probably rightly) ruled out will be spoken to and tried to be convinced. Given PT is being sidelined maybe more cash available now to convince!

Cheers Joe and interesting point you make re money. Looked we all know that managers are getting some money (and i think it's only fair they should get something) so as you say maybe there'll be a few bob there in the kitty for a good external candidate.

I wonder will the Job description be published ,as would be normal when you are trying to upgrade standards ? If so the very best of luck to them in the challenge involved . Hard to get it all right from our current position. God loves a trier, and thats the point! Really i do believe they should feel honoured to have the responsibility to try do what is needed in the best interest of Meath football going forward.

I'm lead to believe MOR has ruled himself out due to the travel commitments. He lives in Tyrone apparently .

That would be a disaster if true. For me he was the stand out candidate that has been mentioned so far.

He lives in Tyrone? Sure would he not be glad to get out of it a few nights a week so..... That could prove to be a positive, the further from that place the better... ;-)

Some say "ah that was different times" Yes different game but man magement skills are as important now as they ever were. He was a willing learner, made mistakes but generally he learned from them. Would like to see him onboard as an advisor in the present circumstances."
Sean Boylan had 10 or12 born leaders in the team, some very seasoned hard footballers. These men stood out for their clubs. Unfortunately now we only have 2 or 3 leaders at most, the rest are just above club standard and have very little leadership qualities if any.

That would be a real shame as I think he would do very well with us.Id say he will be the next Donegal manager (I'd say Bonner will step down)so travel wont be much of an issue there.

No county publishes a job spec, not sure why you are so focused on job spec nobull, point has been made but publishing a job spec won't raise standards and could actually set us back.

There is a handful, a very small handful, of experienced managers available at the moment in the country who would have a CV to take a county like Meath and bring them forward and for Meath to get them it would require convincing as for most it requires extensive travel. Meath will be viewed as a big job given the history and size but we don't have any real in house options, Andy has been out most successful manager we have produced in some time with his success in ballyboden and minors/Ashbourne before it.

The real risk with taking your approach is we look for a very experienced manager and none apply as we don't have that experience in the county, this only serves to make Meath look a joke and unrealistic. As with any business the top manager will be approached and head hunted and convinced, this is how it works and this is what the county board are attempting to do in parallel with internal applicants.

I am at a loss to understand some of your reasoning A job description MUST be available to every applicant in this instance Why ? because the job description will be standards driven Why ? because its a standards and results driven job he is being asked to do. Objectives , reviews, and accountibility is the name of the game . I suggest the job description needs to also reflect that the opportunity is being taken to review our current standards and we want standards to be at the forefront of everything .Where maybe in the past we may not have focussed as much on standards ,its now moved to the top of the agenda. He needs to know that from the start. He needs to see we are trying to upgrade standards in everything. To do that he needs to know the starting point or where we are now. He needs to understand where we are starting from standards wise and where we are trying to get to. Nothing strange in that for any manager of any standing. If he doesnt agree ok next please. We want to raise the bar. WHATS WRONG WITH THAT.? I actually believe this approach is more honest and attractive to a GOOD manager who will take it as a plus that he knows exactly what he is being asked to do. In fact the potential manager who would want the handy vague desription of what he is asked to do i would avoid. Description availabe to the applicant will suffice, but i would like to see it on here as supporters are very much part of the scene even the critical ones like me. We are not in any hurry .I am fully prepared to give the CB as long as it takes to do this very important task. I genuinely wish them the best and i know it will not be easy.

P.s. you will note i did not focus on experience at all .I did focus on matters related to ATTITUDE . Give us that man and the rest will be managable. He will surround himself with the right people ,delegate etc. After all its jist about co ordination and facilitating after that.
